Cristiano Ronaldo & his agent fund cancer treatment for 9-year old boy. For seven years Nuhazet, nicknamed “Nati”, has been stricken with metastatic disease of the spine. Last month his doctors gave his family three options: do nothing, proceed with experimental treatment, or send a biopsy to the United States for customized medication. With that advice, they traveled to the Bernabéu to catch the last game of the season.
Nati’s cousin, had been in contact with Pequeño Valiente, an organization that aims to improve the quality of life for children with cancer. She wanted to see if it were possible for Nati to meet Real Madrid’s players. Manu Sáinz of AS was contacted & got in touch with Jorge Mendes, Cristiano’s agent. On the morning of the match, Mendes sent a car to pick the family up from their hotel & drove them to the Sheraton Hotel where Cristiano surprised Nati. Nati was unnable to speak, & Cristiano joked, “You have nothing to say?”. He promised the boy that if he scored a goal, he’d dedicate it to him, which he did.
The Monday following the match, Mendes phoned Florentino Pérez to tell him of the situation. Pérez personally called a doctor at Sanchinarro Hospital who referred him to Montepríncipe Hospital, which specialized in pediatrics. Nati & his family were received at the hospital on Wednesday, May 16. After being informed of the cost of treatment, Mendes & Cristiano paid the hospital in full the following day. Nati had surgery & his biopsy was sent off that Thursday. The family are now awaiting his specialized medication from the U.S.
