Esteban Granero’s Interview with Marca (highlights)

Did you leave Madrid due to ambition, madness or necessity?
Ambition, definitely, because you leave the best place to make your own life. Madness? I would have been mad to stay where I was, but if you mean have I taken a risk coming here, then definitely.
What did Mou say when you told him you were leaving?
He’s always wanted what’s best for me. He didn’t want me to leave, but he understood. He wished me the best, he gave me good advice and he helped me with my decisions. I have good memories of him. He told me I was going to be happy, and I thought so too. His opinion was important.
Do you speak to him?
We exchange the odd message and I think a lot of him. He’s taught me a lot. I have good memories of him and wish him the best. He’s a great manager and he treated me well.

Madrid will always be there, I can’t forget it when it’s been my team ever since I can remember. I received my first kit when I was four years old, I’ve always gone to the stadium to watch games and I played there. Now I’m no longer there, but I feel as close as when I was a player.

José [Mourinho] thinks I’ve made the right decision – he thinks I am going to be happy here and that I will enjoy this league a lot.
He also told me very good things about Queens Park Rangers and about our manager here, Mark Hughes. José said many good things about him.
It is true that Mourinho helped me pick here.

While looking for the long sleeved away shirt (because that shit is sexy), the Real Madrid shop decides to hit me where it hurts. Right in the feels.

No other transferred player’s shirt is on sale. No one’s but his…

I’ve spent most of my life in Madrid, fighting for their cause. They’re one of the greatest clubs in the world so leaving was not easy, but I’m very excited about the new challenge.

I only have one or two years left, but now I’m taking a break. I will start in Madrid again after the break.
