El País:
What was going through your head when you saw Ramos take that penalty?
Ike Casillas:
When he scored, hat's off. A relief. When you see Xabi miss, you have a few doubts. But when you've learned from experience of it being only a month & a half [in reference to the Champions League elimination against Bayern Munich], you try to get over it. And you see Iniesta score, & Piqué & Sergio, they give you confidence. It's important to respond to [those doubts], taking it like a Panenka or however they like.
I don’t feel like the best in the world, but I’ll tell you one thing. I’d prefer to be remembered for being a good person than a good or bad goalkeeper.
El País:
Before the World Cup final you said [...] that sometimes dreams do come true. How many have come true [for you]?
Iker Casillas:
Since I started playing, all of them. I dreamed of playing for Real Madrid, & I played. I dreamed of winning titles, & I won them. I dreamed of making it to the national team, & I made it. I dreamed of winning a title for Spain, & we won the European Championship & the World Cup. Basically, I dreamed of making people happy because I was one of those sitting down in front of the TV watching the national team play, & in the end we always lost. I wanted to retire winning something for my country, & I got it. The Euro satisfied that desire, & then the World Cup came, & I knew it was a unique opportunity. We reached that dream, too.
