The Competition Committee ruled that Cristiano Ronaldo will serve a one match suspension for a red card offense and one for yellow card accumulation; José Mourinho will miss two. Both suspensions apply in the Copa del Rey.

According to the RFEF, Ronaldo violated Article 123 (violent play) of the disciplinary code by kicking at an opponent with no intention to play the ball. Mourinho was sanctioned for protesting to an official (Article 120).

Edited to add: AS is reporting that Mourinho’s suspensions could carry over to the FA Cup if he coaches with Chelsea. [That seems a stretch to me, though.]

The RFEF Competition Committee will meet Tuesday to determine the severity of Cristiano Ronaldo’s red card offense. According to the referee’s match report, he was sent off at 115’ for “striking the face of his rival with his foot, with no intention to play the ball.”

Two sanctions can be applied:

  1. 2-match ban minimum, applied in same competition (Copa del Rey)
  2. 4-match ban minimum, applied in the next 4 domestic matches *

The more strict penalty would mean Ronaldo would miss the final 2 league matches and then the first 2 next season.

* AS believes that there is a possibility that the Competition Committee may only apply a 2-match ban, given that it is the end of the season.

Sergio Ramos Press Conference (video) | May 16, 2013

“If I am here it is for a reason. I can also answer questions just like the boss. We are here to talk about football, and not about controversy or the future of anyone. Today we decided it would be the players who would come out and I was delighted to be able to do it. I am not here to talk about Mourinho but to talk about the final.”

“The coaches take care of motivating the players for these matches and if there’s something that I like about our coach it’s that he tries to motivate the group as much as he can with talks, videos, preparing the match the best way possible. When we take to the pitch, it all depends on the players. He pulls out all the stops and then it’s up to us. We all row in the same direction so that things go right.”

“Being realistic, if we lose tomorrow the season will be a failure in terms of titles, but not on a personal level. It is not about trying to save a season with a title, it is about finishing the season well. You can lose, but there are ways of losing. The important thing is the group, over and above individuals.”

Copa del Rey final - Friday, May 17 at 9:30 PM CEST | 3:30 PM EST

The Santiago Bernabéu was the agreed upon location. By criteria of seniority, Real Madrid will play as the home team. Supporters from both clubs will benefit since they do not have to travel outside the city to attend the final. Each club will receive 35,000 tickets (18,000 more than if held at the Calderón). The timing of the cup final affects both clubs’ league matches that week (Match Day 36), so they will be played midweek of Match Day 35.
